Vera does not approve of her wife, Cadence's, profession. "It's not a job, you produce (she sneers the word in disgust) 'porn." Cadence defends her job, as she provides for Vera, a grade-school teacher, and her newborn, Albert. There are other problems Vera has with Cadence's chosen "career," she looks at the women in the same way she used to look at her, and Cadence never reaches for Vera.
